Learning
At Arndell, every student has their own personalised learning plan that recognises their strengths, interests and specific learning needs. We teach the NSW Curriculum and offer a wide range of subjects to support each student’s learning and engagement.
We know that strong literacy and numeracy skills are the foundation for learning and everyday life, and our teachers use evidence-informed strategies to help each student build confidence and achieve their goals.
Our broad and engaging curriculum is designed to meet students where they are and help them grow — both academically and personally — in a supportive, inclusive environment.

What students learn
Students learn a wide range of subjects in the NSW curriculum. They build skills, think creatively and prepare for life beyond school.
Learning at Arndell is hands-on, engaging and meaningful. Our small class settings allow teachers to build strong, supportive relationships with each student and tailor lessons to individual learning needs. Students take part in practical activities that connect learning to real-life experiences, helping them develop independence, problem-solving skills and confidence. Wellbeing is woven through everything we do, ensuring students feel safe, valued and ready to learn each day.
At Arndell, social and emotional learning is at the heart of everything we do. Skills such as emotional regulation, resilience, empathy and positive communication are woven through all learning areas and daily routines.
Our PDHPE program and wellbeing initiatives work hand in hand to help students understand themselves, build healthy relationships and make positive choices. Through structured lessons, group activities and explicit teaching of social skills, students learn to manage emotions, solve problems and develop confidence in social settings. These lessons are reinforced through everyday interactions, restorative practices and our trauma-informed approach, ensuring students feel supported to grow both personally and academically.
Our learning approach
Our school uses explicit teaching. This means we clearly tell students what they are learning, why it is important and how to do it step by step. Explicit teaching helps students understand new ideas by breaking them into smaller parts.
Learning at our school is student-centred, inclusive and practical. We are committed to equity and access. We support all learning styles and needs. Our teachers use proven teaching strategies. They take part in ongoing professional development to stay up to date with best teaching practice.
Our learning approach includes:
- real-world learning: hands-on tasks, group work and exploring new ideas
- technology: to help students learn and build digital skills
- flexible teaching: the right support for each student, with a focus on wellbeing
- community connections: through excursions and local programs.
